Meet The Schafers
Meet the Schafers, a multi-generational farming family from Madera, California who live and work in the heart of the Golden State. Like many Central Valley farms, Schafer Family Ranch is truly a family business. Steve and Cindy Schafer, along with their children Justin, Jimmy and Katelyn, grow figs, kiwis, persimmons, almonds, raisins and winegrapes with a commitment to food safety, sustainability and flavor. In the same spirit, they also operate San Joaquin Wine Company, where guests can literally taste the fruits of their labor.
The Schafer Family is widely respected for their commitment to sustainable agriculture. Steve was an early advocate for sustainable farming initiatives, which he often quips are just “common sense”. Steve was instrumental in developing the CSWA certification program and was named CAWG’s Grape Grower of the Year in 2018. The Schafer family has also embraced organic agriculture to meet the growing demand for organic produce, and a portion of their winegrapes, figs and other commodities are both CCOF and Global G.A.P. certified. San Joaquin Wine Co. is also a California Certified Sustainable Winery.

In 2010, business partners Joey and Diane Sagariballa were brought in to solidify the winery team. Together they built a Tasting Room and Event Venue that was completed in December of 2014 and has been a beautiful facility to host many weddings, business functions, fundraisers and other special occasions.
Moody Press Cellars
Moody Press Cellars is our flagship label and one of the most popular offerings in our tasting room. Some of our signature Moody Press wines are also available in a limited reserve bottling.
California Wonders
Our California Wonders brand is a celebration of the Golden State, with each label showcasing one of the incredible natural wonders famous in the Golden State! We’re proud to be making wine in the exact center of the state, where the pine meets the palm.
True Temptation
True Temptation is a love letter to the Central Valley, where we blend our premium wine with other fruits like pomegranates, berries and more. Both sangrias and spritzers are available under the True Temptation label.
Epix
Epix is our signature red blend. It’s a favorite for serving with steak, chicken, and cheese, and it is one that we often share with family and friends.
Toschi Vineyards
Named after co-founder Cindy Schafer’s maternal family, our Toschi Vineyards label speaks to our multi-generational farming heritage.
